Jacksonville, Fl – Amazon is set to open a second fulfillment center in Jacksonville. The company has been anticipating a surge in sales and has confirmed it will open a second location to be able to service the Jacksonville area better.
The 800,000 square foot facility will bring at least 1000 additional jobs to Jacksonville, jobs that we not only want but need. This will bring the total job count to roughly 2500 jobs from both facilities at a crucial time for Jacksonville’s economic recovery.
The new Amazon fulfillment center will be located along International Airport Blvd. and Pecan Park Rd.
Amazon has been interviewing local job applicants and will be hiring new employees steadily over the next six to nine months while finishing the new center that will ship items such as furniture, tools and clothing from this location.
The online retail giant has announced it will open four fulfillment centers, two sorting centers and Prime Now hubs in Orlando, Tampa and Miami. And has been planning to expand in Florida for the past three years.
Floridians that land a full-time gig with Amazon will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including company stock, 401(K) as well as company healthcare insurance. Also, the required maternity and parental leave benefits will also be provided.
Amazon offers employees other benefits, like the Career Choice program, where they will prepay 95 percent of the tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, even if the skills learned are not relevant to their current career at Amazon.
“Amazon’s decision to continue investing and creating jobs in our state is great news,” Gov. Rick Scott said. “I look forward to celebrating the many new job opportunities Amazon will bring to Jacksonville families and their continued success across Florida.”
