What a Wonderful Time at The Ortega River Run in Jacksonville
It was a very nice morning at the Ortega River Run, not to cool, not to hot. The fog was pretty thick as we drove to the event but when we got there it was clearing up nicely. It was still a little cloudy but all in all it was a fantastic morning. As we walked in from where we parked the temperature was absolutely perfect.
You could see the anticipation building in the contestants, some of which were very excited, especially the little ones. The Ortega River Run attracts over 2,500 participants each year and is presented by St. Vincent’s HealthCare and Digestive Disease Consultants. The race started and ended at St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School, with a one mile novice run and a 5 mile race for the experienced runner.
Ortega River Run 2017
A Favorite race of runners from all over the northeast Florida area and Duval County. The annual run has grown quite a bit since a small group of six men started the run in 1978. Wearing the commemorative Ortega River Run T-shirt is a great way to show your support and some wear it even when they’re not racing.
St. Marks raises needed funds to offset the costs of education that are above and beyond what they raise from tuition and fees. Keeping the overall cost of tuition to the students lower. Ortega River Run is one way to make a difference in the lives of the children of the community as well as a great way to get some exercise and get to know the people of the community.
